How To Get There

The likelyhood is that you will be visiting from England or if you have flown in from abroad, Glasgow. The M6 Motorway terminates near Carlisle and become the A74, which has been upgraded to motorway from the Scottish border to near Glasgow where you join the M8 westbound which takes you through the city centre. 10 miles (16km) after Glasgow cross the River Clyde via the Erskine Bridge (60p toll) and join the A82 northwards past Loch Lomond, through Crianlarich and through Glen Coe to Fort William. Leaving Fort William take the A830 'Road to the Isles' to Mallaig. In Mallaig there is free car parking on the far side of the harbour for up to seven days.

If you are visiting by train, there are railway connections at Glasgow for Fort William and Mallaig as well as England. During the summer a steam train service operates between Fort William and Mallaig.

There are no roads in or out of Knoydart and at Mallaig you need to take the ferry over to Knoydart.
