WHAT'S THE STORY IN
BALAMORY?

This delightful town with it's friendly folk has become the setting for a new pre-school childrens' programme currently showing on the BBC TV digital channel, CBeebies. For the purpose of the programme Tobermory has been renamed Balamory, partially to avoid any confusion with the Wombles!
The outdoor scenes were filmed in and around Tobermory while the indoor shots took place in a studio in Glasgow.
The B.B.C. are no longer filming episodes of Balamory but the show can still sometimes be enjoyed on B.B.C.2. in the. morning (analogue channel 62 or Sky Digital 102 in the U.K.) or on CBeebies throughout the day (Sky Digital 617).
The coloured houses of Balamory. Here I have coloured the Western Isle Hotel on the hill pink to represent Archie the Inventor's house although a castle on the mainland, Fenton Tower at North Berwick was used instead in the filming (www.fentontower.co.uk). A part of the blue house to the right of the Mishnish Hotel was painted red for Susie Sweet and Penny Pocket's shop as the Spar Shop in the red house (to the left) was unavailable for filming.
The presenter of Balamory is nursery school teacher, Miss Hoolie who lives in the Green House (actually a bed and breakfast). She introduces each show, decides what short of weather it's going to be and welcomes the children off Edie McCreedie's Daisy Bus before one of Balamory's residents visits her at the nursery often with a problem.

This is followed by a song about which coloured house I am going to.
Edie McCreedie and her Daisy Bus resides at the Blue House (a garage) while P.C. Plum lives at the White House. Spencer, the Painter who is no doubt responsible for keeping Balamory bright and cheerful lives in the Orange House.
