Craignure

Craignure

Near the most easterly point of the Isle of Mull lies the village of Craignure and the main hopping off point to the mainland. Craignure is some 20 miles (30km) from Tobermory and 40 miles (60km) from Fionphort. Craignure is an ideal spot to visit if on a day trip from Oban.
The Isle of Mull boasts it's own 10.5" (21cm) guage railway which runs from near the ferry terminal to Torosay Castle and Gardens a mile and a quarter (2km) away. The railway which runs steam trains operates from around Easter to mid-October.

The Isle of Mull Railway

Not far away is Duart Castle, seat of the Clan MacClean. This the first point on Mull passed on the route from Oban to Craignure. If you are lucky you will catch a spectacular sunset behind the castle.
Duart and Torosay Castles together with the Isle of Mull Railway all form the 'Isle of Mull Experience', a day out on an inclusive ticket which also includes return ferry to Oban. This is ideal for anybody who does not have much time on his hands but wish to sample the delights of this fascinating island.
The ferry runs at least twice a day to Oban, operating every two hours during peak periods. Crossing time is 40 minutes.
