Dervaig

Dervaig.

An 7 mile (11km) drive along the single-track road from Tobermory will bring you to the village of Dervaig. This pleasant, isolated village has it's own shops and pubs and also the rather intriguing Kilmory Church with it's round tower, more synominous with the 'Turloughs' of Ireland rather than the churches of Scotland.

Kilmory Church.

Ard Beag House at the far end of the village was one of the most intriguing guest houses on the Isle of Mull. It was run by two men who often dressed up in Victorian costume and many of their regular guests did likewise on occassions. When I checked in January, 2000 the house was up for sale.

Britain's smallest as mentioned in the Guiness Book of Records, the Mull Little Theatre is also found at Dervaig. Tel. 01688 400245 for bookings.

A mile or so (1.6km) from the village is the Old Byre Heritage Centre. Period furnishings, tableaus and displays; crafts, ect.
Open Easter to October.
